Gertrude (Gertie) Isabelle Brown, 89, of Spring, Texas (Wood Glen Court Assisted Living)  went to live with her heavenly father Saturday, March 11, 2018.  Born April 2, 1928, in Tewksberry, Massachusetts she was the daughter of Roland and Alice (Littlefield) Joy. Gertie married Lawrence George Brown on Dec 1, 1959 in Norman Oklahoma.

Gertie worked for Essex Wire before quitting to start a home business as a child care provider. In the 90’s she worked as a cook at the Carroll County Nursing Home until she retired. Gertie lived in Flora, IN from 1969-2012 before moving to Spring, Texas.

Gertie was a long-time member of Flora First Baptist Church and Red Hats Society. She enjoyed activities at the Flora Senior Center and swimming with the Flora Community Swim Group at Carroll High School during her retirement years in Flora.  Her hobbies included arts and crafts, Bingo, spending time with friends and family, and watching Cubs Baseball and Colts Football.

Gertie is survived by her daughter Joy Fraley (Phil Koble) of Spring TX., and three sons Robert Hutchins(Betty) of Metter, GA., Raymond Brown(Sue) of Goldendale WA, Martin Brown(Tiffany) of Layton UT. Eight Grandchildren Sheila Kegebein, Megan Risley, Rob Fraley, Mercedes Genei, Clinton Brown, Raymond Brown III, Hunter Brown, Mackenzie Brown. Nine Great Grand Children Ariel Kegebein, August Kegebein, Shelby Root, Scarlett Root, Ayla Genei, Brenden Genei, Darren Genei, Kayden Elledge, Landon Risely.

Gertie was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Brown, Brother Roland Joy, Sisters Ethel Malocchi, Helen Rhodes, and Granddaughter Shelly Jo Root.

Gertrude’s family invites friends to visit Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 11:00 AM to time of her service at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Flora. Officiating will be Rev Jim Franklin.  Burial to follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.  Memorials in Gertie’s memory may be given to the church.

We will miss her so very much She always spoke about you Joy and your children, and grandchildren and your brothers and their children so proudly It made her very happy to be able to move close to you and enjoy all of your company She was an amazing women so strong and so loving !     Gertrude was a kind and loving woman who opened her life to many. I wish that we could be there to say goodbye but know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
