John E. Helvie, 89, formally of Flora, died February 5, 2016 in Seminole, FL. He has lived in Florida for the past 11 years. John was born to the late Chauncie “Ed” and Edna Sibbitt Helvie in his grandmother’s home in Flora on September 8, 1926, where he lived most of his life.
John retired from Pioneer Hybrid Corn Company in Flora after work there for 37 years.
In 1946 John married Edith Hayes in Flora and she preceded him in April 1989.
John attended Flora High School, prior to graduating he joined the US Army serving our country during WWII. He was a member of the Flora Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter: LaVaun Kuykendall of Seminole, FL. One grandson: Johnny Kuykendall. Two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Sierra Kuykendall. John is preceded by his parents, wife and brother, William “Bill” Helvie.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 S. Center St Flora, IN 46929. Rev. Chuck Compton officiating. Burial to follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery. Family is asking for all donations be given to the Flora Presbyterian Church.
