Robert D. “Bob” Wilson, 91 of Cutler, was called home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday February 10, 2016 at his home. Bob was born to the late Paul and Margaret McFarland Wilson on February 28, 1924 in Carroll County. On February 7, 1948 Bob married Juanita Howe Barker from Frankfort, raising a family and sharing 63 years of life until she preceded him on May 27, 2011.
Bob was respected and loved by his family and friends, known as a man of patience and quiet wisdom. His work ethic was passed to his family through his dedicated example. He owned Wilson Trucking Company, was a driver and mechanic for General Battery in Frankfort, while working the family farm.
Bob served our Country in the US Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945. He was in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He and Juanita spent many years attending Army reunions with the 460th Ordnance.
Bob was a 1942 Cutler High School graduate, basketball player, and Pacer Fan for many years. His family church was Mt. Olive Methodist and in the past several years attended Valley View Baptist Church in Flora. Part of his daily routine was to make stops at the Flora Family Restaurant, Corner Café, and the Maramart. Bob collected antique license plates, restored antique buggy seats, and antique tractors with his son, Rodney.
Bob is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law and one son and daughter-in-law: Renee and Mike Guffy of Flora, Jody and Mike Watkins of Peru, Cheryl and Jack Brooks of Bringhurst, and Rodney and Melinda Wilson of Michigantown. Bob is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty-five great- grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, wife, two sisters, two brother, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Bob’s family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 South Center Street, Flora, IN 46929. Bob’s grandson, Pastor Ben Watkins, will be officiating. Burial to follow at Zion Cemetery with Carroll County Honor Guard graveside rites. Family ask that memorials be given to Valley View Baptist Church or Cutler Alumni Association.
