2026
Carol D. Allen, 79, of Lafayette, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East following a brief illness. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
Carol was born on April 29, 1947, in Lafayette to the late Wayne R. and Bette L. (Johnson) Burton. She was raised on the Burton family farm, known to many as Pythian Farm, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for family and hard work. A 1965 graduate of Lauramie High School, Carol spent her life rooted in the community she loved.
Carol worked for many years alongside her sister, Ferol, at The Plant Lady, the family-owned business Ferol proudly owned and operated. Together they became well known throughout the community, reflecting the special bond they shared. She also served as a hostess at the Lebanon Holidome and later worked at Westminster Village, where her warm smile and welcoming personality made a lasting impression on those she met.
Carol and Ferol shared a close and special bond throughout their lives. More than sisters, they were lifelong best friends, sharing work, laughter, milestones, and everyday moments together.
Carol attended Elston Family Church and was also a devoted Indiana University fan. More than anything, she cherished her family. She found great joy in pampering her nieces and nephews, and her greatest pride was her beloved granddaughter, Chloe, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life.
Carol is survived by her son, Richard Burton Allen of Shoals; her beloved granddaughter, Chloe Allen (friend, Ethan Woods) of Greenwood; her sister, Ferol Kirkpatrick of Lafayette; her twin sister, Sharon Wheeler of Lafayette; her brother, David (Edna) Burton of Victoria, Minnesota; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Yorktown Cemetery in Stockwell with Pastor Randy Skidmore officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.

July 16, 2026 9:14 am ·I knew Carol my entire life, as our families shared so many memories together. Her parents we called Aunt Bette & Uncle Wayne, as our moms were best friends growing up in Stockwell together. A sweet memory was always playing tag in the front yard before leaving their house. Also, a special weekend I spent with Carol, Ferol, & my sister Lana at French Lick a few years ago was a memory we all cherish. May God comfort all of you!🙏♥️

July 16, 2026 10:15 am ·Carol and I just spoke on the phone 2 weeks ago and were discussing the school reunion. This is a loss that really hits home. Our class of 1965 was very close and Carol and Ferol were two of my favorite classmates. Rode the same bus our entire school years, slumber parties, and just plain fun! Praying for the entire Burton family. Love you all.

July 16, 2026 1:31 pm ·There are numerous memories of the entire Burton family come to mind. I remember Bette Lou’s contagious laughter at the Dickerson home. There were friendly “farmer” conversations between my Dad and Dick by the fence post at the Burton farm. I was getting my school senior picture taken and I took a picture of Carol and Ferol to the beautician and asked the hairdresser to fix my hair just like the twins. They were my idols as they cheered Lauramie basketball team to victories. Sharon and David were closer to my brothers ages. Yet I recall smiling, as my brothers talked about them.
My heart goes out goes out to all of you who loved Carol. May precious memories prevail.
Lovingly,
Tanya Bible Johnson

I am so shocked this happened at this time.
Prayers will be sent up for you and your family. Carol was so caring and sweet. And could be mischievous at times.

July 17, 2026 8:39 pm ·I am terribly sorry to hear the sad news of Carol’s passing. In fact it was only recently I was thinking of her and Ferol as I was contemplating who I might see at our upcoming high school reunion. It will be sad without her. I extend my condolences to Sharon, Ferol and Dave and their extended families. They have long been very close friends.
In sadness,

August 1, 2026 2:05 pm ·I wish send my deepest love and comfort to Carol’s family at this time. Grief is a measure of how much you loved her. I have great respect and love for your whole family, especially the Burton family. Memories flood my mind as I think of the great times we had at Lauramie High School. Carol (and Ferol) have always been women of great faith, good character and so much fun. May you find comfort in God’s love. Psalms 56:8 NLT You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”
