Cheryl “Cherie” L Sutton Crum, 77, of Lafayette left her earthly home on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at her home in Lafayette to join her loved ones in Heaven. Cherie was born on May 24, 1945 in North Manchester, IN, the only child of Wayne and Frances Sutton, she was their whole world. She was a 1963 graduate of Manchester High School and attended Ball State University. In 1967 she married Robert “Bob” Crum and together they raised two beautiful children for sixteen years before divorcing. Cherie worked in sales most of her life at Carlton Jewelers, Firestone Auto Sales, Meyers Motors, Michael’s Furniture and Leath Furniture. Cherie loved mushroom hunting and for many years she and her mother took trips to Michigan with other family members to mushroom hunt. Her eyes would light up at the site of a mushroom popping up in the spring. She was an avid reader, she loved to play Euchre and many other games. You did not want to sit through an episode of Jeopardy or a game of scrabble with her because you would surely lose every time. Cherie was very creative and her kids have fond memories of the elaborate Halloween costumes she would make for them. She had a deep love of all animals and her family often referred to her as the animal whisperer. Cherie was fun-loving, carefree and always lived life on her own terms. She would often remark that she was just an old hippy. Of all the things she loved there was nothing she loved more than her children, grandchildren and most recently her great grandchildren who loved to go to Gammy’s house because they knew they weren’t allowed to leave without a handful of candy from her stash. Cherie is survived by loving family. Her son: Chris (Tammy) Crum of Lafayette. Daughter: Jennifer (John) Crum Walrave of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Grandchildren: Tori (Jordan) Long and Carson Crum of Lafayette, Sr Airman Cooper Crum of Columbus, MS., Jagger Walrave of Oxford, MS and Jade Walrave of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Great grandchildren: Boston and Bristol Long of Lafayette. Long time best friend: Becky Burton of Lafayette and her loyal dog, Jett, who literally protected her to the very end. She is preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children and many pets along the years that were lucky enough to be loved by her.

The family invite friends to visit Friday, March 24, 2023 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A short service will begin at 7:00pm at Outpost Catering, 2501 Old US 231, Lafayette, IN 47909.
