Floyd Collins, 80, of Flora, (also known as Dean and/or Cobby), passed away Tuesday, March 21st surrounded by his loving family in Lafayette.  Floyd was born in 1942 in Virginia and moved to Indiana in 1964, where he quickly married his best-friend Dorothy Peterson.

Dean and Dorothy were married 59-years and raised two children, Donnie Collins, and their daughter Michelle Collins.

Dean was a well-known figure in Flora, infamous for his love of sports, collection of baseball caps, and gambling.  Always wearing a smile, Dean loved playing cards, going to the riverboat, grilling, and jingling his pocket change.  Dean worked at RCA for 16-years, then moved to Zinn Kitchen in Flora, creating beautiful cabinetry for several decades before he retired.

An avid sportsman, Dean enjoyed going on hunting trips for turkey, deer, and mushrooms. Dean was also a huge football and basketball fan. As he got older, Dean adopted a love for watching golf, because the other professional sports would get him too excited.

Dean lived to serve his family, especially his daughter, Michelle Collins and two granddaughters Cheyanne Bockrath and Adrienne Hammonds (husband Sonny Hammonds).

Dean is survived by his wife Dorothy. Children: Donnie Collins and Michelle Collins. Eight siblings: Genevia Johnson, Ruby Sybert of Virginia, Dorisy Sexton, Evelyn Collins of Tennessee, and Lois Aragon, Georgie Garcia, Pearlie Shepard, and Frankie Collins of Iowa. He is proceeded in death by five siblings: Joe Collins, Dale Collins, Charlene Collins, Judy Collins, and Flora Jones.

With such a large family, Dean was blessed with many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, and friends that quickly became family.  The family wishes to thank the Bowling and Bishop families for their loving care and friendship.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

The Collins Family invite friends to visit Saturday, March 26, 2023, from 2:30pm to time of service at 4:00pm at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 S Center St, Flora, IN 46929. Burial to follow at Zion Cemetery.
