Karen S. Barnard, 85, of Flora, went home to be with her lord and savior on September 6, 2023, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with family by her side. She was born in the family home outside of Burlington, IN, to Paul and Dorthey (Hendrix) Garrison on July 22, 1938. Karen was a 1957 graduate of Burlington High School. On March 3, 1961, she married William (Bill) Barnard at the Burlington First Brethren Church.

Karen loyally fulfilled the role of a farmer’s wife. She worked diligently side by side with Bill, operating equipment, tending to the livestock, planting and harvesting crops, as well as keeping up with the housework and raising a family. She and Bill have been faithful servants to their community and Burlington First Brethren Church family since 1961.

Surviving family include her husband of 62 years Bill Barnard, son, Mike (Lori) Barnard of Flora, and daughter Marcia (Greg) Baker of Brownsburg. 5 Grandson’s: Eric, Nick, Blake, Grant, and Matt; as well as 5 great-grandchildren with a sixth on the way.  Karen is preceded in death by her siblings Eileen Garrison and Joe Garrison.

Family invites friends to visit on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 10 a.m. -12 noon at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel 204 S. Center St. Flora, IN 46929. A celebration of Karen’s Life will begin at noon with Pastor Jim Littlejohn officiating. Burial to follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the Burlington First Brethren Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
