Mary A. Catron, 96, of Flora, entered Heaven’s gates on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

Mary was born on October 14, 1929, in Alberta, Canada, to the late John E. and Mary A. (Studebaker) Wagoner. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Don H. Catron, who preceded her in death on April 23, 2003.

Mary attended Delphi High School and graduated from Rossville High School in 1947. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and devoted her career to teaching, serving students in schools that fed into the Carroll School system, including Burlington, Cutler, Deer Creek,  Carrollton and Flora. She began her teaching career in the Plymouth School system. Following her retirement from education, Mary continued to serve her community as a greeter at Meijer and Sears working in the catalogue department.

Mary was raised in the Church of the Brethren in Pyrmont and most recently attended Fountain of Grace Church in Flora. She was a lifelong learner who loved reading her Bible, keeping up with technology, and connecting with others through computers and Facebook.

She is survived by her children: Debra L. Pearson of West Lafayette, Carole A. (Kevin) Seward of Lafayette, Donna M. Catron of Muncie, and Daniel L. (Brenda) Catron of Denver, North Carolina; four granddaughters, Michelle Dyson, Kristy (Cliff) Frier, Katie Seward and Gretchen (Tyler) Barnes and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two special families who meant so much to her: Susan (Dave Baute) Cray and Alicia Cray.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don, and her brothers, Dr. John Wagoner and Dwight Wagoner.

The Catron family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Wheeler Family Funeral Home – Baker Chapel, 204 S. Center Street, Flora, Indiana 46929. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Bruce Hankins officiating. Burial will take place at Pyrmont Cemetery beside her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Fountain of Grace Church in Mary’s memory.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Flora Senior Center (especially Lisa and Stacy), the Fountain of Grace congregation for their love and support, Meals on Wheels and its drivers, and Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate care.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Mary was such a wonderful angel here on earth. She was the perfect person if there ever is one. Kind gentle caring and a deep love for serving her master Jesus Christ. Just like her mother. I am so blessed to have known her. Sorry for my absents of her celebration of life but will be attending a cousin’s funeral at that time. God just received another dear soul.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences to all the Catron family. Mary was our very caring and nicest neighbor we had for 37 years when we both lived in 100 North. We have very fond memories of her living next door to us.
