Ronald D. “Ron” “Speedy” Thomas, 88, of Stockwell, entered his heavenly home Saturday morning, April 29, 2023, at his home with family by his side. Ron was born to the late Herman and Frances Harrier Thomas on September 1, 1934, in Georgetown, IL. On September 10, 1961, in Veedersburg, IN he married Linda Lou Grady and she preceded him on July 13, 2017. He and Linda lived in Dayton prior to moving to Stockwell. Ron retired from Alcoa in Lafayette after working there for 39 years. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and was captain of the basketball team. Ron served our country in the United States Army. Ron enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, he enjoyed the outdoors and tinkering around the house. His biggest love was his grandchildren. Ron is survived by his daughter: Elizabeth Ann (friend Scott) Thomas of Stockwell. Twin sons: Michael Dean Thomas of Bringhurst and Mark Allen (fiancé Kim Elliott) Thomas of Brookston. Sister: Mildred Bartelson of Illinois. Five grandchildren: Brandon Taylor (Kimberly), Candice Nichole Ferguson, Heidie Nichole Kuns (Jamin), Sarah Elizabeth Thomas and Caleb Grady Thomas. Twelve great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Corbin, Hadley, Aubrey, Autumn, Ashton, Averie, Braven, Kaden, Lylah Grace and twins Olivia and Oakley. He is preceded by his parents, wife, two brothers-Robert “Butch” and Raymond “Gene” Thomas.
The Thomas Family invite friends to visit Friday, May 5, 2023, at Wea Ridge Baptist Church, 1051 E. 430 S. Lafayette, IN 47909 from 11:00am till time of funeral at 1:00pm. Pastor Dan Sager will officiate. Burial to follow at Stingley Cemetery near Stockwell with Military Honors. Memorials may be given in Ron’s memory to Loving Heart Animal Shelter, 512 Veterans Memorial Pkwy E., Lafayette, IN 47905.
