Ronald Paul Flora, 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at his home in Flora. Ron and Kathy are very thankful that he was able to rest and enjoy spending his last few days at home in peace and joy surrounded by his family and loved ones. Ron was born to the late Lawrence and Lula Flora on May 31, 1954, in Roanoke, Virginia. In September of 1957 Ron was lovingly adopted by Paul and Esther Flora for which he was eternally thankful. On April 21, 1973, he married the love of his life, Kathy Sue Allen in Bringhurst, IN. Ron worked for Yeager & Sullivan as a feed truck driver then he became a feed salesman. He traveled throughout the State of Indiana selling feed and breeding stock for Charlie Yeager. In June of 1996 he opened and operated Maytag Appliances in Logansport for 25 years and was known and highly regarded as the “Maytag Man.” Ron had a natural gift working as a salesman and treating the public as if they were all family. He was an avid Purdue football and basketball fan and Indianapolis Colts fan. He enjoyed going to the Indianapolis 500 with his good friend Bill Kerns, for many years. Ron enjoyed reading books, studying Civil War history and Abraham Lincoln. He also enjoyed fishing, car shows and restoring classic cars. In April of 1980 Ron accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and shortly after that he was water baptized then, during prayer meeting at Jubilee Fellowship he was filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit and received his prayer language. Ron loved attending church and always took time to greet, visit and mentor others to learn about the word of God. He would always listen to and help people in need. Ron was doing God’s work attending a few different churches starting with Jubilee Fellowship, Tippecanoe Christian Center in Lafayette, Flora United Methodist Church, New Hope (now Northview Church) and the past few years, Bethel Christian Church in Pyrmont. Ron is survived by his wife Kathy. Three daughters: Tabitha Sue (Doug) Forgey of Camden, Malissa Ann (Zach) Pattengale of Flora and Lucinda Irene Flora of Flora. He also has a niece and nephew, Nicole Johnson and Nathniel Flora that he regarded as his daughter and son. Three grandchildren: Rebekah Sue (Austin) Hochstedler, Joseph Kurt Forgey, Paul Walker Freels and Berlin Johnson. Great-grandchild: Carl Wayne Hochstedler and another to be born in January 2022. Three sisters: Jenny Ann Filburn, Rosalyn (Marshall) Dutter and Sarah (Lowell) Filburn. Two brothers: Roger Flora and Tom Flora. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Esther Flora, sister: Linda Hall and brother-in-law Donnie Filburn.

Ron’s family invite friends to visit Friday, July 30 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Northview Church, 687 East 50 North, Flora, IN 46929. Celebration of Ronald Paul Flora’s life will be at 10:00 am at the church. Speaking will be Morgan Young, Robin Root, Martin Blocher and Richard Skiles. Burial to follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery next to his parents. The family ask that all memorials be given to Kidney Donor Services of Indiana, envelopes will be available at the church.

So sad to learn of Ron’s passing. He was such a generous, kind man who operated his business like a man of God. He allowed needy people to make pymts for appliances they would have no other way to obtain. He was an easy friend to anyone. He will be greatly missed till we meet again. 🥺 Prayers for his family. ❤

So sorry for your loss! I remember Ronnie when he was a feed salesman, and would stop by Richard Skiles’ farm occasionally where I worked during my senior year in high school; and years later he would occasionally stop by my dad’s shop in Bringhurst; I seen him just a few years ago at his church in Flora, we were out visiting for the weekend. He was a good man, and will definitely be missed! 😥

I only knew Ron through the Maytag store, but he always seemed more like a friend than an employee. Was always a pleasure to deal with him. He will be missed.
