Thomas S. “Tom” Routt, 51, of Flora, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 3. 2021 at his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born to Roger and Beverly Huttleston Routt in Tampa, Florida on July 24, 1969. He spent most of his life in the Flora area. Tom married Donna Dawson on June 25, 2013 in the Smokey Mountains and she survives. On May 27, 2014 Tom began working for the Town of Flora. He completed his Lineman Journeyman’s training through the IMEA in July of 2019. Tom also worked at Zinn Kitchens for 23 ½ years. He was a 1987 graduate of Carroll High School. Tom enjoyed being with friends and family, especially his four grandkids. Tom loved being a grandpa and he even shared his love of Harley Davidson Motorcycles with his grandkids, taking them for rides. Tom and Donna enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle, taking trips to the Smokey Mountains and in 2017 made their first trip to the Sturgis Biker Rally. Tom is survived by his wife Donna. Daughter: Alexis (Jerica) Shepard of Peru, IN. Son: Brandon (Brandi) Shepard of Logansport, IN. Father and stepmother: Roger and Diane Routt of Flora. Sister: Tiffany Hayes of Springfield, Il. 2 brothers: Dennis (Jill) Routt of Flora and John (Tina) Routt of Kokomo. His niece, that he helped raise, Shelby Brown (Justin) of Flora. Four grandchildren: Karrington, Denver, Dallas, and Easton Shepard, along with Several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Beverly Jo Hayes.

Tom’s family invites friends to visit from 1:00 pm until the Celebration of Tom’s Life at 4:00 PM Saturday at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, 204 South Center Street, Flora, IN 46929. Officiating is Pastor Kevin Marsh. The family ask that all visitors wear casual clothing, Harley Davidson apparel if possible. Following the state guidelines all visitors are asked to wear a face covering. Family asks for memorial donations be made to Riley Children’s Hospital, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

    Tom was an awesome guy. He also worked at IGA for a short time. Tom had a sense of humor about everything. He was a joy to be around! I will miss him.

    I’ll miss his smile and his beard. He was a very good worker for the town now the others will have to work harder than before. He always had kind words. I asked him when I very first met him what his nickname was he said “l’ll answer to anything”(Good that is) he will be missed very much.
