Donald  Gilbert Lichty, 86 of Lafayette, Indiana went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.

Don was born April 10, 1934 in Traverse City, Michigan, the son of the late Gilbert and Renabelle Lichty.

Don grew up in northern Michigan and graduated from Owosso Bible Academy, Owosso, Michigan in 1951.  He went on to attend Owosso Bible College.   He served his country in the United States Air Force and in May of 2019, he had the privilege of going on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

He first married Phyllis Harper in September of 1953 and they had two daughters; Cindy Daihl of Greensburg, Indiana and Brenda Bogear (Philip) of Statesboro, Georgia. Two stepsons also survive.     Craig Meade, Flora, Indiana and Chris Meade (Karen) of Thorntown, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law Ed Daihl and step grandson, Codey Meade.

October of 1992 Don married Darlene Meade and she survives.  They made their home in Lafayette and wintered in Florida.

Don enjoyed working in sales as well as pastoring with The Wesleyan Church in Michigan, North Carolina, Indiana and Kansas.

Since his retirement, Don could usually be found ‘in his shop’.  He could repair, replace, build or fix anything from that shop bench.   Always reaching for that perfect golf game or catching the big fish kept him outdoors when he wasn’t playing cards with friends.  He loved life!

He will also be missed by 2 sisters; Marlene Darling (Ron), Flint Michigan and Marge Bright (Gary) of Jackson, Michigan, as well as a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Arlene and Dennis Overley of Lafayette, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be honoring him with a private graveside service.   A memorial service celebrating Don’s life will be held at a later date.

    Mr. Don was a sweet man. We didn’t get to be with him often but, every time we were together he was a genuine caring person. He loved our son and g’babies, his great g’babies.
    Earth lost a good man and heaven gained a star!
